Complementary care

Complementary care refers to care methods that fall outside standard medical treatments. Examples include relaxation techniques, massage, and adapted nutrition. These so-called “alternative” approaches can be helpful in supporting regular healthcare. For instance, treatment for an anxiety disorder may be supported by practising breathing exercises at home. At the same time, there are alternative forms of care that raise ethical concerns. This applies particularly to more spiritual approaches that focus on concepts such as “energy within the body.” A clear Biblical perspective on these practices is important for dialogue with colleagues, patients and others involved. Legal considerations are also relevant in this context.
